Weekly Photo Challenge: Dreamy

This weeks weekly photo challenge from Daily Post is Dreamy

“This week, we’d like to see an image that looks dreamy to you. A photo of a place you often visit in dreams. A snapshot of your dreamy boy- or girlfriend. A scene that looks a bit out-of-this world. Take us on a flight of fancy!”

Field of weeds

Wild flowers and herbs in reckless profusion along the side of the road near my parents old house.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Signs

This weeks weekly photo challenge from Daily Post is Signs

“For this challenge, share an image of a sign: it can be a sign near your home — a comforting sight after a long journey — a sign that doubles as art, or other types of signs that hold meaning for you.”

NYC signs

In New York you can’t look down a street without signs of all kinds exploding in your eyes – a fact of life there that I very much enjoy. In this photograph you can see giant imagery of consumer goods and finance organisations. Below these titans of commercial activity, appearing almost shapeless and insignificant are human beings. Which of the two seems more important to you?

Weekly Photo Challenge: Nighttime

This weeks weekly photo challenge from Daily Post is Nighttime

“Whether it’s a starry sky, a street lamp, or the shadows cast by your cat, share them with us. Your shot can be outdoors or indoors, blurry or crisp, overexposed or ominously dark. As every owl (and night owl) knows, nighttime is when the real action starts.”

Taken shortly after full sunset this (above) is the Singapore Central Business District (CBD). I really like how the shining, modern, glass towers contrast with the traditional, heritage of the Fullerton Hotel in front.

Two views of the Shanghai CDB at night from across the river.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Endurance

This weeks weekly photo challenge from Daily Post is Endurance

“Share a photo of what endurance means to you — maybe it’s your beat-up, well-traveled running shoes, the oldest structure in your town, the vista you earned climbing that mountain, a photo of your wedding ring, or your dog, tongue lolling, running full out.”

Taal Volcano lies approximately 50km south of Manila, capital of the Philippines. This view of the volcano and lake is considered to be one of the most picturesque and attractive in the Philippines. This volcano was originally formed during prehistoric eruptions that occurred between 140,000 and 5,380 BP. It is the second most active volcano in the Philippines with 33 historical eruptions. It is a potent symbol of power, beauty and endurance.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Humanity

This weeks weekly photo challenge from Daily Post is Humanity

“For this week’s challenge, share what humanity means to you. Share a single photo or a collage like the tiled gallery below to represent a sea of humanity.”

The photos below were taken by me over a weekend, while attending a workshop on street photography in Singapore. All photos were taken in and around Little India and China Town.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Adventure!

This weeks weekly photo challenge from Daily Post is Adventure!

“This week, share a photo that says “adventure.” It could be an image of someone setting off on an epic journey, a photo you took on an adventure of your own, or something more metaphoric that represents a personal or psychological adventure.”

Ethan at Hellsgate

This is my son, Ethan hunched over a map and making his way up a hill to a boiling, steaming, volcanic, mud pool. The pool is one of a large number of examples of vigorous geothermal activity in the natural geothermal park known as Hellsgate. He reminds me of Frodo making his way up Mount Doom!

Celebrating a year of happiness

Today my wife an I are celebrating a year of being together. She is an amazing human being. From the moment she entered my life she changed everything around and all for the better. She caused heaven and earth to change places. She is the love of my life.

These are two of my favourite photographs of her.

Simple portraits, caught in the spur of the moment, with no preparation.

The first one was taken in a shopping mall shortly before grabbing some dinner. The second one was while waiting for a bus one idle Thursday morning.

Congratulations to us baby!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Fray

This weeks weekly photo challenge from Daily Post is Fray

“Share a photo of what “fray” means to you — it could be a tear in a favorite pair of jeans, a street rumble just about to begin, or a friend diving into an oncoming wave at the beach.”

Bugis flags

Frayed and tattered flags above some dumpsters, in an alleyway, beside Bugis Street. I thought the colour of the wall was stunning and the contrast between the lighter coloured flags and background was very striking.
